AVON LEAGUE RECORD BROKEN AGAIN - July 2009

In July 2008 the Avon Commercial League individual record was broken at Tockenham Reservoir when Paul Barnfield posted a score just over 92lbs. This year it has been broken again, but at Sabre Lake Calne. The match was split between Sabre and Tockenham with the smaller venue eclipsing its larger neighbour.
Stuart White from Chippenham fishing for Premier Angling Black recorded at terrific total of exactly 104lbs! Fishing along the long bank at Sabre he caught no fewer than seven Double figure Carp ranging from 13lbs 12oz to 10lbs 9 oz, two others between 9 & 10lbs and a 5lb 7 oz Bream giving him his “ton up” total. Sabre also produthe match.
Individual Results:ced four of the top six weights on the day with Carp and Bream being caught all around the lake despite very difficult and windy conditions throughout
1. Stuart White Premier Black 104 lbs (Sabre)
2. Paul Barnfield Bacons Tackle 77lbs 10oz (Sabre)
3. Mark Wooldridge Premier Gold 47lbs 6 oz (Sabre)
4. John Garner Premier Gold 40lbs 11oz (Tockenham)
5. Derek Greenman Scorpions 33lbs (Tockenham)
6. Andy Hyde Premier Gold 32 lbs 10oz (Sabre)

With over half the field recording double figure catches on the day, the quality of our two Wiltshire lakes was shown to be outstanding.

Floods
With the snow melting thoughts of fishing our rivers has been far from our minds. If you wanted to fish the upper or lower reaches of the Avon then even getting near the river has been a problem. Look at our news page to see pictures of Limpley Stoke in full flood....and the problems you faced there on 11th Feb 2009.
With the thaw well on its way, perhaps now is the time to visit our prolific lake venues?

Tockenham hosts a World Champion
Callum Dicks, the son of the owner of Bristol Angling Centre, chooses Tockenham to show off his angling skills to a National Angling Magazine. Callum is now the under 22 world champion after his match winning performances in matches held in Belgium on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th July 2008. An outstanding result and we would like to offer him our congratulations. The picture was taken by George Waite (our chairman) while Callum was fishing at Tockenham for the benefit of 'Totally Coarse Fishing'. The feature article should be out in August. The cameraman standing next to Callum is the magazine professional.

Could drivers of tall vans turning up at Tockenham Resevoir remember that the entrance gantry has a maximum height of 6 feet 6 inches.

A survey commissioned by the Environment Agency South West Region on the Bristol Avon took place recently by way of D.C.Electro fishing at Christian Malford. The survey covered 100 metres either side of the road bridge. In that stretch they caught 206 Roach with an average length of 98mm, and an unexpected catch of 7 Tench, a species of fish never recorded here before, with the largest measuring 493mm.
The Environment Agency gave this particular section a rating of B (above average).

PLEASE NOTE: we would very much like to emphasize that we no longer lease Sword Lake which is very close to Sabre Lake

Please remember that as an angler you are an ambassador for the sport. It is important to remove all litter and discarded line from your swim and return all fish to the water with the utmost care.
